Fire destroys concrete plant in Manchester

MANCHESTER — An unused concrete manufacturing plant off of Richville Road was destroyed by fire on Monday afternoon, according to Manchester Fire Department Chief Scott Kilburn.

Kilburn said the call came in around 5 p.m. about a fire in the building at an unused gravel pit.

“The wood structure was pretty much gone by the time we got there,” he said.

About 45 members of the Manchester and Arlington fire departments were on the scene and Kilburn said the fire was under control in about 45 minutes to an hour.

No one was hurt, according to Kilburn, and there was no one in the building during the fire.

While the fire is of undetermined origin, Kilburn said Monday night he didn’t see a reason to call for an investigation by the Vermont State Police fire investigators.

The Arlington and East Dorset fire departments sent fire trucks to stand by in Manchester.
